Lady Braves hold off Bowdon

(Mount Zion, GA) — While most of their classmates began enjoying a week off from classes, the Lady Braves were back at work in Mount Zion where they faced off against the rival Bowdon Red Devilettes in game two of the Thanksgiving Shootout at Mount Zion in Carroll County.

In a tight back-and-forth affair, the Lady Braves just edged the Devilettes 42-39 behind another strong double-double performance from senior Kimberly Harris in the post.

Harris led all scorers with 18 points and she also brought down 11 rebounds even though playing with a bad back.

The game was close throughout with the Lady Braves holding a slim 3-4 point lead after each quarter before going ahead by nine with under two minutes to play.

The Devilettes fought back to close the gap to three but were unable to sink a couple of 3-point attempts to tie the game in the closing moments.

Junior Rylee Robinson nearly equaled Harris’s big performance with a nice game of her own. Robinson poured in 16 points with 10 rebounds. Laken Thompson also added 13 for Bowdon.

Other top scorers for the Lady Braves were seniors Ally Harris and Alyssa Cosper with five each and junior Alexis Nelms who scored four.

The Lady Braves continue in the tournament today against a strong North Paulding squad at 3:00 PM before enjoying Thanksgiving break.

The varsity boys and girls will both return to regular season play next Tuesday, Nov. 29 when they travel to Our Lady of Mercy in Fairburn (6:00/7:30 PM).
