Lady Braves lead HCMS at Conference Track Finals

(Carrollton, GA) — The West Georgia Middle School big and small school conference track finals took place Saturday at Carrollton High School.

The HCMS Lady Braves took second place while the boys took fourth in the small school division.

Leading the way for the girls were Tori Caldwell and Rachel Butler. Caldwell finished with 26 points on the day and was recognized as the Most Valuable Field Performer at the meet. Tori took first place in the Pole Vault and third place in the high jump with a personal best mark of 4 feet, 8 inches.

Rachel Butler also had a huge day in the track events scoring 22 points and being named the Most Valuable Track Performer at the meet. Butler scored high finishes in several different running events. Beth Moreland placed third in the 3200M.

Top male Field performers at the meet included Wyn Denn, Micaiah Austin, Colson Jiles, and Ashton Bonner.

Denney won the Discus Throw with an impressive throw of 107 feet, 7.5 inches and Austin took down the field with a mark of 37 feet, 6 inches in the Shot Put.

Bonner took first in the long jump with a jump distance of 17 feet, 5.5 inches. Jiles scored a nice second place finish in the high jump. Cody Sickman placed second in the Pole Vault.

The star of the day in the running events for the Braves was Christopher Edwards who outran the field in the 3200M with a time of 11:56:76.

“Our boy’s and girl’s teams worked diligently and consistently improved throughout the season,” said head track coach Melissa Nichol after the meet. “I am so proud of all of them for having such a great season.”

The Bremen Blue Devils took home the first place trophies for both the boys and the girls in the small school division.
