Lady Braves stay perfect in region play

(Temple, GA) — The Lady Braves moved to a perfect 4-0 record in Region 5-AA play Tuesday with an 11-1 win at Temple in five innings.

Senior Hannah Sanders notched her seventh homer of the season for the third straight year at the same time tying Anna Shelnutt for second on the all-time career homer list for the Lady Braves.

Sanders had two hits and two RBI’s in the rout which featured 14 base hits by Coach Matt Hornsby’s offensive line-up.

Aspen Barker had another big performance from the top of the order with three hits and three RBI’s.

Two-hit performers included seniors Alyssa Cosper, Ally Harris, Hannah Stephens, and freshman Brittany Graley. Cosper also drove in two runs.

The Lady Braves also continued to light up the base paths with seven steals.  Barker led the way with three followed by pinch-runner Brittany Scarborough with two.

On the mound, three Lady Braves combined to toss the five innings. Sophomore Haley Bennett picked up her team high seventh win as the starter pitching three innings while allowing just three hits, an earned run, and three strikeouts.

Mallory Galloway was perfect retiring the side in the fourth inning on just seven pitches and freshman Katelyn Jiles closed it out in the fifth allowing just one hit.

The Lady Braves face another region opponent in rival Callaway today at HHS with a first pitch at 5:30 PM. The Lady Braves knocked off the Cavs 16-2 in the first meeting on September 1 in Lagrange.

On Saturday, the squad travels along with the JV and middle school teams to Gwinnett College for a program showdown with the Wesleyan School. The HCMS Lady Braves will play at 10:00 AM followed by the JV at noon and the varsity at 2:00 PM.
