Lions Eliminate Lady Braves from Playoffs

The Lady Braves hosted the Lovett Lions yesterday in the third and final game of the first round state playoff series at the high school.

The game, which was rescheduled from a rain-out on Thursday took place at noon in front of a host of Heard County fans mostly wearing white in support of the girls.

The Braves were the visitors in the game so they batted first. Freshman Cali Harrod roped the second pitch of the game over the left field fence for a home run which gave the girls a quick 1-0 lead.

Senior Jordan Wolfe was on the hill for the Lions for the third straight game.

In the next two offensive innings for the Lions, momentum quickly changed as several bloop hits, poor defensive plays, and one very questionable call by the umpires left the Lady Braves trailing 8-1.

In the top of the third inning, hits by Alicia Carroll, Jasmine Cook, and Alyssa Bishop led to three runs by the Braves and a shot of enthusiasm for the home crowd as the gap was closed to 8-4.

From that point on, however, pitchers Wolfe for the Lions and Carroll for the Braves took over with neither allowing any more runners to cross the plate. The final score was 8-4 ending another very solid season for the Lady Braves.

Despite the loss of  key seniors Carroll, Cheyenne Pruitt, Kayla Banks, Raven McCullough, and Katie Lego, the girls should once again be one of the favorites in the new region next year.

The Lovett Lions will now advance to take on the Fannin County Lady Rebels who came back from a 3-0 deficit in the final inning of game three Friday to defeat Dade Co 5-3 and take that series. Fannin Co. will host the Lions.
