(Franklin) — The Braves basketball teams were swept Tuesday night at HHS by the visiting Central Lions with the varsity boys falling 72-55 and the varsity Lady Braves falling 50-36.

In the boys game, Coach Philip Manning’s squad put up a solid effort and led at the half 29-27 before the Lions pulled away with a 24-12 run in the third quarter.

Senior Elijah Toney had a solid game for the Braves and led the scoring with 19 points. Other top scorers for the Braves were Christian Murray with 11, Emory Jones with eight, C.J. Bradfield with seven, and Lashon Echols with six.

Isaiah Boyd led all scorers for the Lions with 24.

Coach Manning’s squad is trying to gel as quickly as possible with so many players getting a late start to the season because of the deep football run at state.

In the girl’s game, the Lady Braves dropped their second game to the Lady Lions in as many weeks, but fared much better than they did in last week’s 57-28 loss.

Junior Jordan Watson and senior Cali Harrod led the scoring for Coach Akins with 12 points each with Whitney Emory and Madison Whitehead each adding four.

The varsity teams return to action at home on Friday where they will host the Troup County Tigers (6:00/7:30).

The most exciting game of the night came in the early JV boys match-up where the Lions just edged the Braves 44-41 in close competitive battle.

Jordarius Williams led the JV Braves with 12 points followed by Connor Nutt and Torrance Allen with six apiece, and Christopher Goode with five.
