Local church to host ‘drive-up’ Easter Sunday worship service

(Franklin, GA) — Prospect Church is planning to host a very special “drive-up” worship service this weekend to celebrate Easter Sunday.

The event will take place at the Flat Rock Campgrounds on HWY 34 about four miles west of Franklin this Sunday, April 12 beginning at 11:00 AM.

The Easter service will be led by Prospect Pastor Brandon Brooks who says all guidelines of the State of Georgia’s ‘Shelter in Place’ order will be adhered to.

“I am very concerned and I don’t want people to be congregating. All I am trying to do is help people that are just like me that want to go to church on Easter Sunday,” says Pastor Brooks.

Brooks says the service will be very simple and people will not be required to exit their vehicles.

“I just want it to be a drive-in church service. Folks can just roll their windows down or they can get out and stand beside their cars or bring a chair and sit close to their cars. We will have parking attendants to make sure that cars are not parked to closely together.”

Pastor Brooks says he will be set up to preach at the pavilion and thinks the property offers plenty of open space to fit a large number of properly spaced cars for the worship service.

The historical grounds are home to the annual Flat Rock Camp Meeting each August — one of the longest running events in Heard County.

The campground was originally built in 1876 and meetings have been held continuously each summer since that era.

The Flat Rock Campgrounds are located at 8006 GA HWY 34. All are invited to attend the special Easter service.
