Local deputy facing second major health issue

(Franklin, GA) — A local  family recently started a fundraising campaign to help raise funds for mounting expenses associated with medical bills for their father.

Cpl. John Cash, 64, is facing his second major health issue in the last two years and will be undergoing major surgery later this week to remove an aneurysm from his stomach. Upon completion of that procedure he will still need bypass surgery later on.

Cash was forced to retire from the Heard County Sheriff’s Office after successfully battling colon cancer in the summer of 2015. He served in Heard County law enforcement for over 23 years.

Cash is also a retired 1st Sgt. in the United States Marine Corps.

His family has started a gofundme page to help raise money and they also plan to open up a bank account very soon.

Donations can also be made at the Main Street Diner across the street from Heard County High School. Cash’s wife owns the diner, one of the oldest restaurants in Franklin.

Cash says he expects to be in the hospital for about one week after the bypass surgery and recovery could take up to several months.

“I just truly appreciate everyone that has already made a donation to me and my family. I just ask that you please continue to keep all of us in your thoughts and prayers,” said Cash this week.

To make a donation visit gofundme.com or stop by the Main Street Diner to make an in person donation. For more information you can call Jessica at 706-616-5766.
