Local man arrested in Troup County after arranging to meet a child for sex

(Troup County, GA) — A Franklin man was arrested this week in Troup County following an investigation by the Troup County Sheriff’s Office.

On January 28, 2020, an investigator with the Troup County Sheriff’s Office who is a member of the Georgia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, conducted an operation that lead to an investigation in regards to child exploitation.

During the operation a male who has been identified as Steven Wayne Webb, age 53 of Franklin conversed with what he believed to be an underage male child.

During these communications, explicit conversation and images were sent.

Subsequently, Webb agreed to meet the underage child in person and was arrested without incident on February 13th.

According to a press release issued by the TCSO, Webb is charged with Criminal Attempt Aggravated Child Molestation and two counts of Child Exploitation under the Child Exploitation and Prevent Act.

“Thank you to my team of investigators who are assigned the tough task of working these cases and tracking down those individuals who seek harm to our children,” said Troup County Sheriff James Woodruff in the statement.

Steven Wayne Webb is currently being held in the Troup County Jail.
