(Franklin) — Harriet Imogene Miller Bell was born at home in Franklin on July 19, 1915. The home she was born in is now Cartown Auto at the corner of Bevis Road and Highway 34. She has lived her entire life in Heard County.

Mrs. Bell celebrated her 100th Birthday at Pruitt Health of Franklin last Friday. She is the daughter; of the late Walter H. Miller and Harriet (Hattie) Williams Miller, both of her parents lived in Heard County as well.

Imogene had three siblings, a sister Mae Miller Williams, and two brothers Howard and John Miller.

Imogene attended school in Heard County where she often talked about playing basketball. She dropped out of school to assist in the care of her mother who was in failing health.

After her mother died she married in 1947 at age 32 to WWII Veteran, John M. Bell. Although the couple had no children she loved her nieces and nephews, as they were her own. Her husband John died in 1973, they were married 26 years.

As a senior citizen a drug-crazed man assaulted her — he was high on valium and tequila. Imogene almost lost her life due to her injuries. The assailant was arrested in Heard County and found guilty.

Imogene lived in her home on Salem Road in Franklin with her sister Mae after her husband passed away. After Mae passed she moved in with her brother John and his wife Ernestine Miller, but now has lived at Pruitt Health of Franklin for the past 13 years.

She attributes her long life to the many times she walked to Franklin from Salem Road. Also walking with her sister Mae Williams and sister-in-law Ernestine Miller.
