Man facing charges in fatal Pea Ridge Road crash

(Franklin, GA) — A Newnan man is in the Heard County jail today and facing several charges from a two-vehicle crash that claimed the life of a woman he knew on June 30.

According to reports released by the public information officer with the Georgia State Patrol, 26-year-old Ashley Michelle Newby of Newnan died at Grady Hospital in Atlanta.

She was airlifted to Grady following a crash that took place on June 30 at the gravel portion of Pea Ridge Road near Heard Elementary School.

Heard County Emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene at 4:18 PM.

Jeremy Len Head, age 29 and also of Newnan was arrested on Monday, July 2 and charged by the GSP with Tampering With Evidence (2 cts), Driving While Unlicensed and Failure to Report an Accident with Injuries.

Authorities with the GSP and the Georgia Bureau of Investigations continue to investigate the accident and further charges may be pending.

Heard County courts have set a bond of $80,000.00 for Jeremy Head in the case.

The GSP and Heard County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash scene involving a black Pontiac G5 sedan driven by Newby and a pick-up truck driven by Head.

Newby was driving the Pontiac that went off the road and crashed into some pine trees before coming to a final uncontrolled rest perpendicular to the gravel road on the shoulder of the road.

No information on the exact cause of the crash has been released by the GSP.

According to facebook, Newby and Head had been in a relationship for at least the last couple of years.

Newby’s profile also indicates she was a 2010 graduate of East Coweta High School.
