Football season is approaching quickly, which also means it’s time for marching band season as well and the Heard County Marching Braves have already began preparing.
The band held its band camp from July 16th until July 27th, each day beginning at noon and ending at 9 p.m.
Band camp allows the students to learn their show music, work on marching fundamentals and begin learning their drill on the field. Throughout the weeks of band camp, the band progressively learned their show and worked hard to perfect it.
The band is excited to be under the leadership of Mr. Jonathan Greene this year. Greene graduated from Lithia Springs High School, marching all four years.
Also while in high school, he marched two years in the drum corps and after graduating, he attended The University of West Georgia where he marched for six years.
Greene has taken the role of a marching band instructor at numerous high schools, including LaGrange High, South Paulding High, Dacula High, Villa Rica High, and Troup High.
Before taking the position as band director at Heard High, he was the band director at Westside Magnet School for two years.
“Band camp went very well and I believe the band is capable of achieving many great things due to their hard work and respectable attitude. Our goal this season is to continue to be a superior band at competitions, as well as entertain our home crowd on Friday nights. I have found out that we are a small band with a big sound and big hearts, and I’m proud of what we are achieving.”~ Mr. Jonathan Greene
