Middle Braves fall short at Red Devils

The HCMS Braves football team dropped a close 28-21 battle at Bowdon Thursday afternoon but are hopeful to get a chance at redemption when the plays begin in just a couple of weeks.

A close hard-fought game throughout featured many exciting plays. After a quick Bowdon score early in the game, Jonta Gray answered with a long 63-yard touchdown run to tie the game at 6-6 midway through the first quarter.

The Red Devils would score the next two touchdowns before Gray ran it in again just before half leaving the score 20-14 Red Devils at the break.

A Bowdon turnover led to a long Carlton White touchdown in the third which put the Braves up 21-20, the only Braves lead of the day.

Despite three second half fumble recoveries by the Braves, the offense was unable to get back on track. The Devils scored the winning touchdown with 1:25 to play in the game.

The middle Braves will travel to Carrollton next week for a non-division match-up before the playoffs begin on October 18 at Heard County Middle School.

The Braves will play in the semi-finals at home and with a victory would likely return to Bowdon for the championship game.
