The Braves knocked off the Rebels 34-14 Wednesday afternoon
(Buchanan, GA) — The middle Braves football team traveled to Buchanan, GA Wednesday afternoon to battle the Rebels of Haralson County in the last regular season game of the 2013 campaign and walked away with a 34-14 win capping off a perfect 6-0 regular season.
The Braves now prepare to host Mt. Zion next Thursday at 5:00 in the semi-finals and with a win would then host the winner of Thursday’s other semi-final game between Bowdon and Villa Rica on October 24 in Franklin.
Coach Allen Sikes said after Thursday’s game that the Rebels were one of the toughest team’s the Braves have faced all season. “We came out today and played four quarters against a very tough Rebel squad,” said Sikes. “Haralson County executed well and played hard for the entire game.”
Several Braves played well including quarterback Emory Jones who scored one TD on the ground and also tossed a TD pass to Jaden Moreland. Kendaz Goode, Christopher Goode, and Carlton White also each scored a TD.
One of the team captains, Gage Cannon, had a big fumble recovery in the second quarter on defense. Kendaz Goode was also big on defense with several huge hits and tackles.
Sikes thinks that the Eagles of Mt. Zion are a tough draw in the first round next week as far as match-ups. “We will have to be ready to play next week for all four quarters,” said Sikes. “We can not afford to relax against a formidable Eagle squad.”
The Braves defeated Mt. Zion on the road on September 12 by a score of 35-8.
