Middle Braves Power Past Red Devils

HCMS 7, Bowdon 5

In an unlikely chain of events, the weather held and the middle Braves were able to take to the field to open play at home. Game time temperature was at 87F under mostly sunny skies creating a slight breeze to right field. It was simply outstanding weather for a ball game.

Trey Alford pitched an excellent game, allowing only two runs in five innings of work. He finished the day with zero walks and seven strikeouts. Keagan Spradlin was once again behind the dish.

Defensively, the Braves committed several errors in the field but none hurt bad enough to allow any runs. With the wacky schedule these boys have played (with all the rain-outs) a little rust can be expected. During the game several new faces saw some playing time including Drew Hahn, Bryan Jones, Hunter Lane, Christian Merrill, Austin Brown, Rad Brooks and Brian Hill.

Offensively, the Braves had several good rips and timely hitting to light up the scoreboard early and often. The 4th inning was the Braves’ “breakout” inning, in which they scored four runs. After Drew Wulff struck out looking, Gaylon Head came up and ripped a hot-shot through the hole at short for a base hit.

Then Ethan Brant drew a walk followed by a RBI hit by Hunter Lane. Then came the shot of the day, as Drew Blair crushed a triple to deep centerfield driving in two runs. Quay Daniel then hit a one-bagger to drive in the final run of the inning.

The Braves finished the game with a 7-5 win, squashing a late desperate rally by Bowdon in the bottom of the sixth.

HCMS celebrates big win over Bowdon

Central Middle 15, HCMS 2

Any momentum the middle Braves had after their victory over Bowdon was surly lost as they dropped their game against the Central Lions 15-2.

Playing their second home game in as many days, Drew Wulff took the mound and lasted 2 1/3 innings, while allowing 7 runs.

Bryan Jones came on in relief, inheriting a bases loaded situation but did not have the answer to cool off the Lion bats that stayed hot all afternoon. Quay Daniel also saw pitching action after Jones left the game.

The Braves will surely learn from their mistakes before their next match-up which will be Thursday afternoon as they go on the road to visit the Carrollton Trojans. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m.

Friday the middle Braves will be back at home to face the Bremen Blue Devils.
