The Heard County Middle School football team’s juggernaut season continued Thursday when Coach Sikes squad dismantled the Villa Rica Wildcats in the small school division playoff semi-finals which the Braves hosted.

This Thursday the Braves will face off against the rival Bowdon Red Devils in a rematch of a close defensive game played just a few weeks ago that the Braves pulled out 14-6.

The Devils defeated Bremen Thursday by a final score of 32-6. Not only will a championship game be on the line, but also a perfect undefeated season, which would be a first in HCMS history.

In yesterday’s playoff game vs. the Wildcats, it was obvious quickly that the Braves would not be denied their spot in the championship game. They completely dominated the first half of play on both sides of the ball as well as special teams.

LaShon Echols, Quay Daniel, and Jontae Gray spearheaded the effort on defense with several big stops, and Austin Barron once again ran wild on offense with three more touchdowns.

Perhaps the most exciting play in the half was a perfectly executed onside kick by kicker Cole Holliday in which he actually made the recovery as well.

Full back Andrew Cannon was also beastly with some big runs including a touchdown and several two-point conversions. Seventh grader Austin Miller scored a touchdown with just one second to play in the first half and the teams headed to the locker rooms with the Braves firmly on top 36-0.

In the second half, Coach Sikes got a chance to get some playing time in for his younger players and the Braves coasted to a 36-8 win.

Sikes told his team after the game that they must come ready to play all four quarters this week against a solid Red Devil team in what should be an electric atmosphere at the middle school this Thursday.

The game will kick-off at 5:00 p.m. at the middle school at 269 Old Field Rd. in Franklin. The middle school kids need as much support as possible this Thursday for the big game so please try to come out and support their quest for a perfect season.

In HCMS Lady Braves softball action, the girls are set to begin the playoffs on Tuesday at 4:30 at home.

Their perfect record was lost on Thursday with a narrow 4-3 loss to Bowdon but they are primed for a run at the middle school small division softball championship as they enter the postseason with a final regular season record of 8-1.
