Middle girls advance to title game

Jordan Watson led the way Wednesday with 11 points as the Lady Braves took down the tourney host and #4 seeded Villa Rica Wildcats 39-29 in baskets.

The win places Coach Kathy Scott and the top-seeded Braves into Friday’s championship game which will tip at 4:30 and again be played in Villa Rica.

The offenses for both teams had a difficult time getting on track today and after the first quarter the Wildcats held a slim 5-4 lead.

The girls fought back in the second quarter and led 13-12 at halftime. Watson was fierce on defense and end up with several steals on the day.

The scoring was spread out pretty evenly with several players contributing including as Alyssa Cosper finished with eight points while Kemaiya Brewer, Erica Emory, and Hannah Stephens each tallied six.

The Wildcats hung in all game long but could not overcome Watson’s play on offense or defense. The Lady Braves will face the winner of the Bowdon-Bremen match-up in the championship game.

Coach Sikes and the boys team play tomorrow at 4:30 vs. the Bowdon Red Devils in what could likely be a barn burner. The two teams have been very competitive with one another all season. (Info/pic courtesy of Kristen Sumner)
