As expected Heard High School freshman Madison Laprade is keeping very busy after being named Miss Jr. Teen America 2013 in early July of this year.
Last week, for example, she delivered a total of 72 homemade cupcakes that she baked herself to local law enforcement agencies in order to honor them on the 12th anniversary of the September 11 attacks on the United States.
Madison delivered the goodies to the Franklin Police Department, Heard County Sheriff’s Office, Heard County Fire Department, and 911 center. “I just wanted to say thank you. I think it was important to take a minute out of our days and thank our public safety workers for everything they do,” said Laprade.
One of the biggest events Madison was able to attend this year as part of her reign was the Miss America Pageant held this past weekend at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Madison (accompanied by her grandmother) was not only in attendance at the pageant, but also had front row seats and was given the awesome opportunity to do a photo shoot with the winner of one of the world’s most prestigious pageants.
Despite her very busy schedule, Madison is still finding time to juggle her other duties as an HHS student and a varsity football cheerleader.
Another passion of the young teen has become Bert’s Big Adventure, a non-profit organization created in 2002 by Bert and Stacey of radio’s “The Bert Show” that provides a magical, all-expenses-paid, five day journey to Walt Disney World In Orlando for children with chronic and terminal illnesses and their families.
Madison has set up giant pink boxes at both Heard County Middle School and Heard County High School in hopes of raising donations of Disney items to pass along to the children. The boxes will be on site at both schools through December and people are asked to drop off new Disney products such as toys, movies, and any other Disney related items.
More than anyone else, Madison is thankful for her top supporter and mom, Joy Laprade. “I am so grateful to my mother for all she has done for me. I would never have had any of these opportunities if not for her. She is my number one inspiration and I love her very much.”
