Monday accident involved two Heard County buses

(Franklin, GA) — Two Heard County school buses were involved in a minor accident near Heard County Middle School Monday afternoon resulting in several injuries.

According to a report by Georgia State Trooper Olen Kuhr, the accident occurred at the intersection of Old Field Road and Franklin Parkway. Both buses were traveling east bound on Old Field Road.

Bus No. 18 driven by Valarie Wilkes was stopped at the end of Old Field waiting to turn left on Franklin Parkway when the second bus (Bus No. 6) driven by Janet Scott struck the rear end of Bus No. 18.

The lower speed impact brought bus No. 6 to a final controlled rest facing north on the east shoulder of Franklin Parkway. Bus No. 18 came to a final controlled rest facing south on the west shoulder of Franklin Parkway.

Scott was issued a warning citation for following too closely.

All of the children on both buses were of middle and high school ages. Two students were transported to West Georgia Medical in Lagrange and another was transported to Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton.

Neither of the drivers were seriously injured although both were later examined for precautionary reasons. None of the injuries were reported to be severe.

Heard County school officials say each bus suffered some minor damages.
