Motor Carrier Compliance Division to Participate in “Operation D.R.I.V.E. on I-85”

bc(Atlanta, GA) — The Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD) is participating in a 72-hour multi-state high visibility enforcement campaign to target unsafe driving behaviors among commercial vehicle drivers through a partnership with the South Carolina Department of Public Safety.

The campaign will begin on Tuesday, September 16 and end Thursday, September 18, 2014.

“During the campaign, MCCD officers will patrol approximately 178 miles of Interstate 85 in Georgia from Alabama to South Carolina,” said Major Gene Davis, MCCD Commanding Officer.

The acronym D.R.I.V.E. represents the agencies focus on targeting distracted, reckless, and impaired drivers through high visibility enforcement strategies. MCCD officers will be keeping an eye out for commercial vehicle drivers who are speeding, texting while driving, following too closely, and driving fatigued.

“Officers will also be inspecting commercial vehicles and their drivers at inspection sites. Officers will not hesitate to issue out of service orders and citations to drivers found to be a safety hazard,” the commander added.

Georgia ranks fourth in the nation for fatal crashes involving commercial motor vehicles.

“The Motor Carrier Compliance Division is committed to implementing strategies and programs that can reduce crashes and provide a safer transportation experience for motorists traveling in our state,” said Major Davis.

MCCD officers will also be stationed periodically at the Welcome Centers to hand out education materials to all drivers regarding safe driving behaviors.
