Motorcycle accident leaves Ephesus man hospitalized

An Ephesus man, Alan Yates, is hospitalized at Atlanta Medical Center after a two-vehicle accident which occurred Sunday afternoon near Roopville Road Baptist Church in Carroll County.

According to a report issued by the Georgia State Patrol, Yates was driving northbound on US HWY 27 at about 12:45 p.m. when his 1980 Kawasaki motorcycle impacted a 2006 Chevrolet Impala driven by Kevin Cheek, age 35, of Carrollton.

The report indicates that Cheek attempted to cross the northbound lanes and pulled from the Roopville Road Baptist Church driveway into the path of Yates’ motorcycle.

Yates struck the left side of the Impala and was ejected.

A family member of Yates stated Monday afternoon that Yates is currently in ICU undergoing numerous reconstructive and corrective surgeries due to having both arms severely crushed as well as an injured knee.

A graduate of Heard High School, Yates is married with one 4-year-old child.

Cheek was charged with failing to yield.
