Mr. Alexander “Mac” Crosby McCarthy, age 82 of Franklin, Georgia formerly from Tampa, Florida passed away at the Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton, Georgia on Tuesday, October 18, 2011.

A celebration of life memorial service will be conducted for Mr. McCarthy at the Davis Island Yacht Club on Friday November 4, 2011, in Tampa, Florida. The service time will be announced at a later date.

Mr. McCarthy was born in Charleston, South Carolina, the son of the late Robert Emmett McCarthy and Marjorie Beatrice Allaire McCarthy. He was a graduate of the University of South Florida.

After graduation, he served his country honorably as a 1st Lieutenant in the United States Air Force’s “All Weather Fighter Squadron”. For his gallantry, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.

He was a Presbyterian by faith, but was active in many projects at the Franklin First Baptist Church where he and his wife, Darlene, combined their talents to enhance church musicals and children’s events.

Their creative genius brought the pages of each program to life. From a very early age, Mac worked with his dad learning the advertising and photography business.

Eventually, he started M and M Photography which specialized in underwater, aerial, commercial, corporate, and fashion photography. His talents with the camera brought him wide acclaim in the art world.

His pictures of the Alaskan Pipeline were featured in National Geographic, and his animal photography are still a vibrant part of the decor at Busch Gardens in Tampa, Florida. He was an avid supporter of the Carrollton Homeless Shelter, and enjoyed volunteering for the Habitat for Humanity.

His other interests include sailing, yacht building, fishing, and woodworking. At one time, he was the owner of a shrimp trawler in Puerto Rico. He was a charter member of the Davis Island Yacht Club, Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla, Florida, the Commodore Club, and US Sailing.

Mr. McCarthy was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Darlene Danfelt McCarthy of Franklin, GA.; two daughters, Mrs. Shelly Roe (Woodrow) of Stewart, FL., and Mrs. Sandra Stone (Todd) of Tampa, FL.; one step daughter, Ms. Valerie Crouse (Dr. Richard Livernois, M.D.) of Newnan, GA.; and five grandchildren.
