Earl “Rex” Cowart, age 75, passed away Friday, March 1, 2013 at his home in Talking Rock, Georgia. He was born June 3, 1937 in Carroll County to the late Mr. William Guy Cowart and Mrs. Mary Haynes Cowart.
He retired from the US Postal Service after 33 years of service, having last served as the Post Master in Franklin, Ga. He retired from the US Army Reserves after more than 20 years of service to his country. He was a member of the Foothills Community Church and Carroll Masonic Lodge #69 F&AM.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Patricia Walker Cowart; brothers Thomas Cowart and Eugene Cowart; sisters Elizabeth Weathington and Verdie Nunnally.
Survivors include his wife, Annette Cowart of Talking Rock, Georgia; sons and daughters in law, Scott and Cindy Cowart of Carrollton and Kim and Marnie Cowart of Bowdon; daughter and son in law Cindy and Bert Hall of Carrollton; sister Evelyn Moore of Bowdon; brothers W. G. Cowart of Carrollton, Travis Cowart of Illinois, Terry Cowart of Temple and Don Cowart of Virginia; grandchildren Chris Hall, Jason Hall, Jeffery Cowart, Kelly Bass, Jessica Kearney and Laura Hall; also surviving are four great grandchildren.
Memorial services will be conducted Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at 2:00PM from Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel with Rev. W. G. Cowart and Pastor John Reale officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Hall, Jason Hall and Jeffery Cowart.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday, March 4, 2013 from 4:00 to 7:00PM and Tuesday from 1:00PM until the service hour.
Interment will follow in Carroll Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the American Parkinson Disease Foundation, 135 Parkinson Ave., Staten Island, NY 10305.
