Mr. Hanley Parmer

Mr. Hanley Denson Parmer, of Bowdon, Georgia, passed away on June 14, 2020. He was 85.

Mr. Parmer was born on March 10, 1935 in Franklin, Georgia to the late James Ervin and Cora Lee Parmer.

He was a retired driver for Blossman Gas and a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Mr. Parmer was also a veteran of the US. Air Force and served during the Korean Conflict, though he never was in combat.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Ruth Cofield; his brother, Hollis Parmer; and his brother-in-law, Bobby Word.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, whom he married on December 20, 1958, Betty Word Parmer; his daughters and sons-in-law, Vickie and Dennis Rollins and Beth and Ken Williams; his brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and Lynda Parmer; and his sisters-in-law and their spouses, Sara Nelle Word, Ron and Sara Anderson, and Tommy and Judy Cantrell; six grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 17, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Bro. Dennis Rollins and Bro. David Parmer will officiate.

Pallbearers will be Mike Parmer, Scottie Brown, Cameron Trail, Lee Estes, Zach Robinson, and Jason Cantrell. Honorary pallbearers will be truck drivers who have worked with Mr. Parmer, who was known among them as “Pocket Watch.”

Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Bro. Ryan Williams conducting the graveside services.

The family will receive friends at Rainwater Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 16, 2020 from 5:00 until 7:00 PM.

During the visitation and service, we ask that everyone be considerate of the current health concerns and practice social distancing.
