Mr. Hilton Hammett Brooks, former Franklin City Police Chief, age 72 of Franklin, Georgia passed away November 25, 2014, at the Piedmont-Newnan Hospital in Newnan, Georgia.

Funeral services for Mr. Brooks were conducted Saturday November 29, 2014, at 2:00 P.M. from the Stutts Funeral Home Chapel in Franklin, Georgia with the Reverends Talmadge Chandler and Lynn Janney officiating.

Music was provided by Sheila Shelnutt. Those serving as pallbearers were Danny Murray, Larry Ward, Jason Adams, Chris Stallings, Ryan McKenzie, and nat McKenzie. The interment followed in the Franklin City Cemetery.

Mr. Brooks was born in LaGrange, Georgia on October 3, 1942, the son of the late Frances Louise Smith Brooks and Olin Hammett Brooks.

After high school he served his country honorably in the United States Army. With the experience he obtained in the military it seemed the natural progression to go into the peace keeping force. He started his police career in Troup County Georgia. His most notable posts were that of Franklin City Police Chief for which he served for ten years, and the Newnan City Police Department from which he retired.

Mr. Brooks was known by all to be a kind, level headed officer who treated all those he came in contact fairly. His contributions to the community’s her served made them a safer and more secure place to live. Before his health declined he loved to hunt and fish. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife Linda McKenzie Brooks of Franklin, GA.; three daughters, Vicky Dittman of Fitzgerald, GA., Kati Adams (Jason) of Newnan, GA., and Kayla Brooks also of Franklin, GA.; one son, Michael Brooks (Gina) also of Fitzgerald, GA.; 8 grandchildren; one special grandson, Kaden Brooks of Franklin, GA.; and one great-grandchild.

Other than his parents he was preceded in death by one beloved son, Hilton Hammett Brooks, Jr.

    I use to work with him at Goolsby foods where he free lanced when he wasn’t working at the police department. He use to walk me to my car to make me feel safe. He had this watch that had a rooster he would play over the loud speaker when it was time to go. I will miss him. RIP I will miss you. His family will be in my family’s prayers.
