Mr. James Harold Rogers

1416515_profile_picJames Harold Rogers, 84 of Carrollton, Georgia died on September 23, 2014 after an illness at Grady Hospital since September 11, 2014.

He was born October 22, 1929 in Heard County, Georgia to J.B. Buren Rogers and Bulah May Yates Rogers. His grandparents were C.F. Charlie Rogers and Linda Carter Rogers.

He grew up on a farm in Ephesus Georgia and had many jobs which included farming, learning to drive a truck at an early age, working at J.B. General Store, and ginning cotton. He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1951-1953 during the Korean Conflict.

He loved to sing and was in a singing gospel group “Rebelairs” for several years. He was chairman of Fray Co. and Heard County singing conventions. He was Scoutmaster of Troop #8 in Ephesus Georgia for nine years. He was also Civil Defense Director of Heard County for nine years, Route salesman for Checker Board Feed Store and sewing machine mechanic for Playtex in Lagrange.

For eighteen years he was superintendent of Parks and Grounds for the city of Carrollton, and throughout the city built ball fields, walking trails, and planted flowers and shrubs. He also was the owner and operator of his own landscaping business for many years before retiring. He was a member of Abilene Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Talley Rogers; and brother, Joe Rogers.

Survivors include his loving wife of 26 years, Sybil Dean Rogers of Carrollton; his children, Debra Kemp, Deidra Skinner, Ricky McGuire, Vickie Williford, and Shane McGuire; brothers, Gerald Rogers (JoAnn), Randall Rogers, and Lindy Rogers (Virginia); sisters, Mary Maxwell, and Marthaneil Ballard (Robert); eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, September 27, 2014 at 4:00 PM from Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel with Rev. Keith Jiles, and Rev. Darnell Teal officiating. Interment will follow in Abilene Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Gerald Rogers performing graveside service.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Rogers, Eric Ballard, Jeff Ballard, Wes Rogers, Ricky McGuire, Randall Rogers, Darrell Teal and Darnell Teal.

The family will receive friends Friday, September 26, 2014 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel.
