Mr. Jerome Harris

Mr. Hubert Jerome Harris, age 72, of Franklin passed away July 10, 2020.

A graveside service will be held Monday July 13, 2020 at 11:00 AM at New Springs Church Cemetery.

Remarks will be given by Rev. Lynn Janney, Rev. Rodney Roquemore, and Mr. Scott Bailey.

The family will gather for a private viewing Sunday evening.

Jerome was born September 1, 1947 in Heard County to the late Hubert Franklin Harris and Willie Christine Williamson Harris.

He served his country in the US Army and was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam Era.

He was the owner and operator of J&J’s Barbecue in Franklin, which he opened in 1982. He was known far and wide for his delicious shredded pork and stew.

Hundreds of loyal customers during the years ate countless meals from his stand, some of them coming from several counties away just to get a taste. Hunting season was especially busy, as hunters would line up during the day.

He loved the Lord and attended church often. He was active in service at Olive Branch Baptist Church and Ridgeway Baptist Church. He enjoyed singing in the choir and serving the Lord when he was able.

He dearly loved his family. He always made sure they were happy and saw to their every need.

Survivors include two daughters, Jennifer Harris and Jessica Harris (Derrick Emory); adopted son, John Watson; seven grandchildren, Aiden Whoric, Kiki Emory, Tink Luke, Sarah Harris, Triston Harris, Emily Harris, and Emilie Hardin; one sister, Diane Bales; father-in-law, Watson Adams; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Jill Harris, and a sister, Marie Combs.
