Mr. Jerry Elmer Mathews

Mr. Jerry Elmer Mathews, age 76 of Franklin, Georgia passed away on Thursday, December 15, 2011 at his home.

Funeral service for Mr. Mathews were conducted on Sunday, December 18, 2011 at 3:00 P.M. from the Ridgeway Baptist Church with Mr. Mathew’s son, Reverend Brett Mathews, and son-in-law Reverend Lynn Janney officiating.

Music was provided by Sheila Shelnutt and the Ridgeway Baptist Church Youth Choir.

Those serving as pallbearers were Zake Mathews, Luke Mathews, Chad Mathews, Trevor Mathews, Ronny Mathews, Brent Janney, Zach Janney, and Jarrod Anderson. The interment followed in the Prospect Church Cemetery.

Mr. Mathews was born in Heard County, Georgia, on November 2, 1935, the son of the late Elma Loy Cook Mathews and Clarence Clayton Mathews. He was a retired machinist for the Franklin Aluminum Plant.

He was a faithful member of the Ridgeway Baptist Church. He was a loving husband and father. He was a humble man who showed kindness to all he knew.

“Mr. Jerry’s” life revolved around his family. His greatest joy was to be surrounded by them. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife Karen Duke Mathews; two daughters and one son-in-law, Kelly and Lynn Janney, and Mandy Whitney all of Franklin, GA.; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Scott and Susan Mathews of Mountville, GA., and Brett and Tammy Mathews of Franklin, GA.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one beloved son, Keith Mathews.

Tom Stutts and Son Funeral Home of Franklin, Georgia is in charge of arrangements.
