Mr. John Oliver Jackson

Jackson Obit

Mr. John Oliver Jackson, age 90, of Franklin, Georgia passed away at his home on Thursday, December 18, 2014.

Funeral services for Mr. Jackson were conducted on Saturday, December 20, 2014 from the Stutts Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Steve Clotfelter officiating. The interment followed at the Mount Zion Cemetery.

Mr. Jackson was born on January 20, 1924 the Glenn Community of Heard County, Georgia, the son of the late Effie Maude Crenshaw Jackson and John Walter Jackson. He was a faithful member of the Community Christian Church where he had served as an elder for many years.

His musical abilities served him well as he also served the church as song leader. This same gift afforded him an opportunity to perform with fellow band members on a local radio station.

Hard work was a great passion of his. This was evident from his stellar work record he had at Callaway Mills/Milliken and Company from which he retired after 35 years of service. Even after working a full day he enjoyed coming home to several hours of gardening.

Many evenings were spent in his shed which he lovingly referred to as “The Palace” where he enjoyed wood work and welding. His tremendous work ethic made him a favorite among his employers and fellow workers. It also set a wonderful example for his children and grandchildren. Being a good husband and father were utmost in his thoughts. He will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his beloved wife of almost 69 years, Sara Faye Stephens Jackson of Franklin, GA.; three sons, Chris Jackson (Judy) of Senoia, GA., Terry Jackson (Kathy) of Franklin, GA., and Oliver Jackson (Shirley) of LaGrange, GA.; six grandchildren, Shane Jackson (Robin) of Marietta, GA., Dr. Kathryn Faye Jackson of Ft. Myers, FL., Kimberly Lorraine Jackson of Raleigh, N. C., Sarah Christine Jackson of Senoia, GA., Brandon Oliver Jackson of Jackson, GA., and Stephen Chad Jackson of Grantville, GA.

Other than his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Tommie Ray Laws; and brother, Jim L. Jackson.
