Mr. Mike Pope

Mr. Michael Allen Pope, age 58 of Franklin, Georgia passed away at his home on January 5, 2012.

Funeral services for Mr. Pope were conducted on Sunday, January 8, 2012, at 3:00 P.M., from the Tom Stutts and Son Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Stacy Thomas officiating.

The interment followed in the Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery. Music was provided by Larry Pope, and Donna Boswell. Those serving as pallbearers were Tilman Levens, Theron Levens, Ricky Adams, Randy Hendricks, David Cartwright, and Benjamin Hyatt.

Mr. Pope was born on December 26, 1953, the son of the late Lema Hill Pope and Henry Allen Pope. In his younger years he was a popular student at Heard County High School, so much so that he was voted “Mr. Heard High” his senior year by his classmates.

After losing his wife, high school sweetheart, Rita Faye Gentry Pope he raised their two sons alone. After many years, he met his fiancée, Bonnie Mahanay, who brought him great joy. The tender and loving care she gave him will long be remembered by his family.

Mr. Pope was a Christian by faith. Until the onset of his illness he was the Warehouse Supervisor at Sony Music Corporation in Carrollton, Georgia. Those who knew Mike will remember his go-getter attitude, and his strive for perfection. His charm could win over even the strongest skeptic.

He loved fishing, camping with family and friends, and working in his garden. Of his many accomplishments, he always felt his greatest accomplishment was his two children and grandchildren. His favorite times were spent with granddaughters, Jayden and Jordyn. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his fiancée, Bonnie Mahanay of Franklin, GA.; two son and one daughter-in-law, Bobby Pope of Sharpsburg, GA., and Jared and Jodi Pope of Newnan, GA.; four sisters, Mildred Durrough of Carrollton, GA., Betty Cassell of Franklin, GA., Jeanette and Don Moon of Tampa, FL., and Shirley and Cameron Sheppard of Franklin, GA; two brothers, Randy and Lucille Pope of LaGrange, GA., and Harold and Patricia Pope of Newnan, GA.; two sisters-in-law, Burla Mae Pope of Mableton, GA. , and Becky Pope of Franklin, GA.; two beloved granddaughters, Jayden and Jordyn Pope of Newnan, GA.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lema and Gid Pope; three sisters, Lucrete Cavender, Barbara Nell Pope, and Janice Pope; and five brothers, Kenneth Pope, Edwin Pope, H. A. Pope, Wendell Pope, and Jimmy Pope.

Tom Stutts and Son Funeral Home of Franklin, Georgia is in charge of arrangements.

    Mike was a great supervisor and leader! He is unbelievably missed by all who knew him and worked for him. He made such an impact on our lives with his tough skin leadership and teddy bear heart that we will cherish our memories with him forever.
