Mr. Rayfield was born on August 7, 1951, at the Patuxent River Naval Air Station in Patuxent River, Maryland, the son of the late Elizabeth Ann Smith Rayfield Elliason and Ervin Preston Rayfield, Sr.
He was a graduate of The University of West Georgia with degrees in Geography and Economics, but because of his tremendous love for construction and the outdoors he became a supervisor for the Holliday Construction Company where he specialized in Civil Construction. As a child of a United States Navy Chief he traveled the world.
From the diverse opportunities he had, he developed a great love for the arts, with a special love for music and theater. It was this love that brought him and his wife together while working in the LaGrange Little Theater. Pete not only enjoyed performing, but put his carpentry skills to work designing and building sets.
In his early years he became a percussionist and later took up the Dulcimer which became a great joy for personal enjoyment and sharing with others. When time permitted he enjoyed fishing. On any given day if you saw Pete, you also saw his constant companion, his dog Cotton.
His family was the great joy of his life. His wife, Jan, and children had to admit that they all took a back seat to the true apples of his eye, his granddaughter’s, Isabella and Ava Kate. He was a wonderful man, who enjoyed life and pleasing those he loved. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Jan Jackson Rayfield of Franklin, GA.; one daughter, Erin Rayfield of Duluth, GA.; one son, Jeremy (Amy) Rayfield of LaGrange, GA.; three sisters, Suzanne (Larry)Crosson of Dahlonega, GA., Linda (John) Carbo of Jonesboro, GA., and Gini (Don) Wiley of Ellijay, GA.; and two granddaughters, Isabella and Ava Kate Rayfield of LaGrange, GA…
He was preceded in death by his parents, Betty Ann Rayfield Elliason and Ervin Preston Rayfield, Sr.
