Mr. R. Barry Harper

Mr. R. Barry Harper age 70, of Carrollton, passed away Friday, March 17, 2017 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

Barry was born March 26, 1946 in Bremen, Georgia to the late Ellen Jeanette Robinson Harper and Ralph “Monk” Harper. He was a 1965 Graduate of Central High School and enjoyed a 31 year career with The Georgia Power Co., retiring as a materials supervisor.

Following his retirement Barry enjoyed farming and at one time maintained two farms. He was a founding member of Rocky Mount Baptist Church and was an ordained deacon.

His outside interests included a love of golf and at one time he was a scratch golfer and the winner of several local tournaments.

In his later years one of the greatest joys of his life were his six grandchildren who he loved unconditionally.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Donna Kaye Martin Harper; daughter and son in law, Deidra Harper Bass (Jim) and two sons, Martin Barry Harper and William Daniel Harper all of Carrollton; brother and sister in law, Terry & Marcia Harper of Roopville; grandchildren Jase Bass, Luke Bass, Matthew Bass, Andrew Bass, Karli Harper and Jack Harper; two nephews, Chuck Harper and Chad Harper; two nieces, Keri Denney and Nichol Langley.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, March 20, 2017 at 2:00 PM with Mr. Terry Harper officiating.

The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers Chuck Harper, Chad Harper, Judson Bell, Ray Mashburn, Tommy Ogletree and Aaron McWhorter. Interment will follow in the Stripling Chapel Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Monday from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to either Rocky Mount Baptist Church, 583 Buffalo Creek Rd., Carrollton, Ga. 30117 or Gentiva Hospice, 6458 Spring Street, Suite 100. Douglasville, Ga. 30134.
