Mr. Robert Echols

1469948_profile_picCelebration of Life Service for Robert Lee Echols, 71, of Franklin, Georgia will be held on Sunday, December 7, 2014, at 2:30 p.m. from the St. Smyrna Baptist Church with in-state viewing at 1 p.m.

The Reverend Tamarkus T. Cook, pastor, Reverend John Thompkins, eulogist. Interment Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Robert was born on November 18, 1943, to the late Mr. and Mrs. K.C. Echols Sr. He was a quiet man with a gentle soul, and he stood tall. He had a big heart for others and a listening ear. He was known throughout the community by “Big John” and at work by “Big Robert.”

Robert was employed at William L. Bonnell for 45 years before retiring. He held many positions at Bonnell. This was the only job he worked. After retiring, he started his own lawn care service, serving all surrounding communities.

He made numerous close friends in life. He was the treasurer of Handy Day serving from the beginning and one of the founder’s of this event.

Robert was married for 20 years to the former Tommie Edmondson.

Survivors are Elaina Washington (Terry); Roderick (Keisha) Echols; sister, Martha J. West; brother, Cleophus (Joyce) Echols; grandchildren, TaNiya Washington, Preston Echols and Pria Echols; and a host of nieces, nephews cousins and special friends.

    I knew Robert Lee, Tommie and the children many years ago when Elaina was young and Rod just a baby. I have always wondered about Robert Lee over the years. He was one of the sweetest people I have ever known. So sad to hear of his passing. I know he will be greatly missed.
