Mr. Robert Wilburn McLain, age 71 of Franklin, Georgia passed away at the West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange, Georgia on Thursday, January 9, 2014.

A Memorial Service will be conducted on Sunday, January 12, 2014, at 4:00 P.M. from the Tom Stutts and Son Funeral Home Chapel at 2717 Franklin Parkway, Franklin, Georgia with the Reverend Neil Awbrey and Andrew Bou officiating. The family will receive guests at the funeral home two hours prior to service time.

Mr. McLain was born on September 13, 1942, the son of the late Myrlca Duray Jones McLain and George Washington McLain.

Mr. Robert was a popular Heard County High School Student in the late sixties, where he was part of the infamous basketball team who to this day, still holds the school record of the most wins in the history of the school.

Shortly after graduating from high school he entered the United States Air Force where he served honorably during the Vietnam Conflict as part of the stateside Air Force Security Force.

Until his retirement he was employed by Bell South where he served as a Cable Repair Technician. He was a Christian by faith who believed in service to his fellow man. With that thought in mind he served the people of Franklin, Georgia on its city council for twenty-eight years.

While his children were students in the Heard County School System he was an active supporter of all the events they participated in. He was especially active as an athletic booster, where he served as president.

Anyone who knew Mr. Robert very well knew that he was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing, and also enjoyed golfing with family and friends.

However, nothing was more enjoyable to him than spending time with his family, especially the four grandchildren, Kami, Kati, Abigail, and Ansley. His dear wife Joyce was his ever faithful companion, caregiver, and the love of his life. He will forever be missed by those he knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Arrington McLain of Franklin, GA.; daughter, Amy Kent (Bill) of Carrollton, GA.; son Brad McLain (Stephanie) of LaGrange, GA.; two sisters, Brenda Bou (Jorge) of Miami, FL., and Wendi Pike of LaGrange, GA.; two brothers, Myron McLain of Moreland, GA., and Anthony McLain of Marietta, GA.; three sisters-in-law, Jean Wortham (Steve) of Soddy Daisy, TN, Jerri Davis of Conroe, TX., and Charlotte McLain of LaGrange, GA.; four grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
