Mr. Webster Denney

Mr. Lonza Webster Denney, former Franklin, Georgia Mayor, age 88 of Franklin, Georgia passed away on September 20, 2012 at the Cottage Landing Nursing Home in Carrollton, Georgia.

Funeral services for Mr. Denney were conducted on Sunday, September 23, 2012 at 3:00 P.M. from the Franklin United Methodist Church with the Reverends Brett Mathews, Brian Jackson, and grandson, Brandon Langley officiating.

Military Honors were performed by the Fort Benning Army Honor Guard. The interment followed in the Franklin City Cemetery.

Those serving as pallbearers were Brandon Langley, Dylan Langley, Jared Rogers, Jake Rogers, Jay Denney, and James Denney. Honorary pallbearers were Talmadge Davis, Mason Alford, Joel Phillips, Ross Henry, and Kevin Hannah

Mr. Denney was born on September 27, 1923, the son of the late Lula Mae Stephens Denney and Lonza Wilburn Denney.

He served his country honorably in the United States Army during WWII. For his gallantry he received the Bronze Star, Combat Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign WWII Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Expert Rifle Badge, Sniper Medallion, Purple Heart, and the Europe-Africa WWII Medal.

He attended West Georgia A& M. He married the love of his life, Myra Adams Denney on September 11, 1948, and they lived a very happy life for sixty four years. For most of his adult life he was employed by the Southern Guarantee Insurance Company where he was a field representative.

“Mr. Webster” was a much beloved member of the Franklin, Heard County Community. For many years he served as the Heard County Clerk of Court; as mayor of Franklin for two years; served on the Chattahoochee-Flint Board; and was a was a Mason.

He and Miss. Myra enjoyed traveling the world with their friends, Jackie and Talmadge Davis. He was a man of great integrity. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife, Myra Adams Denney of Carrollton, GA; two daughters, Sharon Charlie Frost  and Pam and Rogers  all of Franklin, GA.; one son Larry and Candi Denney of Roopville, GA.; grandchildren, Brandon and Cindy Langley, Pam and Charles Wright, Tara and David Neighbors, Jay and Amy Denney, James and Kathy Denney, Jared Rogers,  Hogansville and Wilma and G.B Duckworth of Thomson, GA; twelve great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Tom Stutts and Son Funeral Home of Franklin, Georgia is in charge of arrangements.
