Mr. William Ray Kent

Mr. William Ray Kent, age 79, of Carrollton, Georgia passed away Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at his residence.

Mr. Kent was born in Centralhatchee, Georgia on November 23, 1935, the son of the late Claude Kent and Fannie Lee Kent. Mr. Kent served in United States Army from 1958 – 1960.

Ray attended school at Tyus and graduated from Roopville in 1953, after which he attended West Georgia College. He married Nan Harman Kent on June 10, 1955. He has lived in the Farmers High Community since 1960, and was a poultry producer and cattle farmer winning Farmer of the Year in 1984.

He was a member of Cattlemen’s Association and director of Carroll County Sales Barn. He professed his faith in Christ at a Billy Graham Crusade while in the Army, and was a member of Salem Baptist Church in Carrollton.

Survivors include his wife Nan Harman Kent; two sons, William Ray Kent, Jr. and his wife, Amy, and Marion Brian Kent and his wife Diane, all of Carrollton; five grandchildren, Kami, Kati, Naomi, Ethan and Dacey Kent; sisters, Jimmie Nell Duke of Carrollton and Melba Thomas of Dudley, Georgia and a number of nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, JC and Paul Kent and sister, Lillian Long.

The family will receive friends at Almon Funeral Home on Friday evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be Saturday, May 23, 2015 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Almon Funeral Home with Rev. Ralph Caldwell officiating.

Pallbearers will be Dennis Marlow, Judson Bell, Roy Sprewell, Shane Harman, Josh Harman and Jeff Barr. Honorary pallbearers are M.C. Robinson and James Entrekin. Interment will be in Salem Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Milford Ballenger officiating.
