Mr. Willie Cheeks

Mr. Willie Henry Cheeks was born on July 2, 1941 to the late Henry Alexander Cheeks and Bertha Lee Little in Carrollton, GA. He departed this life on Tuesday, August 9, 2016.

John was reared and attended school in Franklin Georgia. Early in life, he was a member of Hillside Baptist Church, Bowdon, GA.

He united in marriage with the late Willie Ann McGhee of Roopville, Georgia. John and Ann were married in Franklin, Georgia and made their homestead in Franklin where he worked at Franklin Aluminum. He loved fishing and farming his land.

John is survived by his three children, Gladys Ann Payton (Fred) of Franklin, Georgia; William Cheeks (Melissa) of Cartersville, Georgia; and Jeffery Cheeks (Tracy) of Huntsville, Alabama.

PawPaw has six grandchildren, Olivia Payton, Angelica (Korey) Swafford, Justin Cheeks, Kyra Cheeks, Morgan Cheeks, and Troi Cheeks.

John is survived by six sisters, Thelma Cook, Cartersville, Georgia; Velma McCarver, Cartersville, Georgia; Pauline Boykins, Atlanta, Georgia; Lizzia Jones (Cephus) Detroit, Michigan; Francis Burton, Detroit, Michigan; and Bertha Golden, Cartersville, Georgia.

Three sisters and one brother preceded John in death, Eva M. Pearson, JoAnn Roberson, Cora Lee Leftwich, and Frank Cheeks.

John is survived by one sister-in-law, Mary Bell Harris, and two brothers- in-law, Charlie B. McGhee and James McGhee. One sister-in-law, Sarah McGhee, and two brothers-in-law Eddie McGhee and Charlie Plant (Peanut) preceded John in death.

John was loved by a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In life, we loved you dearly, and in death we love you even more. In our hearts you hold a place that no one else can fill.

The Celebration of Life Service was held Saturday, August 13, 2016 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Roopville. Pastor Keith D. Lewis officiated and burial followed at the church cemetery.

Lakes-Dunson-Robertson Funeral Home of Lagrange is in charge of the arrangements.
