Mrs. Burla Mae Pope

Mrs. Burla Mae Cavender Pope, age 95, a resident of Traylor Nursing Home, passed away May 15, 2020 at Clay County Hospital due to complications from COVID-19.

She was born February 26, 1925 in Heard County to the late Ridley B Cavender and Alma Sheets Cavender. She was a Christian by faith.

She worked for Whittenbaum Manufacturing in the Knitting room before her retirement.

Her favorite times were spent cooking a big spread at home for the family. She was especially famous for her buttermilk biscuits. She dearly loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, James and Susan Pope of Five Points, AL; four grandchildren, Wes Pope, Susanne Barfield (Jason), Brad Pope (Dakon), and Scott Pope (Carrie); five great-grandchildren, Madison Barfield, Cilicia Barfield, Logan Barfield, Colton Pope, and a Baby Boy Pope due later this year; and a number of other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Pope.

She was laid to rest beside her husband in Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery. A memorial service will be held on a later date.
