Mrs. Daisy Ruth Dawson

Mother Daisy Ruth Dawson, age 99 of Franklin,GA passed Sept. 9, 2015. Homegoing celebration was held Monday Sept.14,2015 at 1:00 PM at Friendship Baptist Church Franklin, GA, Rev. Anthony Pierce, Pastor. Interment followed at Wadley Chapel Cemetery Corinth, GA.

Daisy Ruth Dawson (Muttie) was born September 22, 1915 in Lone Oak, Meriwether County, Georgia to the late parents John and Mattie Griggs. She started her education in the Meriwether County School System in 1930.

After graduation she helped on her father’s farm by picking cotton and working in the fields. She also found great pleasure in education and would make it her profession. She taught school at Oakridge, Harmonia CME and later at Bethel Heard Church.

While teaching school she met her beloved husband, Robert Dawson. To this union nine children were born. She was baptized at an early age and became a member of the Griggs family church, St. Paul CME.

Daisy later moved her membership to Harmonia CME Church to be with her husband. She was very active in the church where she, among various other duties, sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, served on the usher board, and directed the Easter programs.

She was a social butterfly and had a true love for singing, actively participating in the Corinth Social Club and the Old Ship and singing with the Nightingales.

Daisy devoted her life to God and to serving others. She lived a full and vibrant life and over the life span of 99 years she served as counselor, confidant, matriarch, and inspiration to her family and friends.

She entered into her final rest peacefully at her daughter’s home on September 9, 2015 just thirteen days before her 100th birthday.

She is preceded in death by her husband – Robert; four children – Homer, Linda, Janett, and Marion; four sisters – Nellie Mae, Arlene, Lilly Maude, and Rosa Lee; one brother – Curtis; and one son-in-law – Holsie.

She is survived by two sisters – Oretha Burston and Rose Bradfield; one sister-in-law – Mary Ruth Griffin; five children – Grace (Jodie), Mary, Lillie, Doris (Robert), and Rose (Charles); 20 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 20 great great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Final arrangements entrusted to Willie A. Watkins Funeral Home Carrollton Chapel.
