Mrs. Doris Estelle Shaw

Mrs. Doris Estelle Morman Shaw, age 89, of Franklin passed away Monday, December 3, 2018.

Funeral services for Mrs. Shaw will be conducted Saturday, December 8, 2018.

The family will accept guests at Stutts Funeral Home Saturday afternoon from 12:00 – 2:00 PM; funeral services will begin at 2:00 PM with the Rev. Scott Hannah officiating. Interment will follow the service at Big Springs Baptist Church in Omaha, Alabama.

Mrs. Shaw was born September 26, 1929 in Randolph County, Alabama to the late W.C. Morman and Sarah Frances Sears Eunice Morman.

She was a longtime member of Big Springs Baptist Church and then the First Baptist Church of Franklin.

Mrs. Shaw retired from the Heard County School System after 30+ years of teaching elementary school.

She always loved her husband and family, in particular her very special “Denny Boy”, all manner of family events, traveling, and her students.

Mrs. Shaw was well-known for grading papers, or even tutoring students at no charge, after family supper at the dining room table in her home.

A graduate of Berry College in Rome, Georgia, the only thing Mrs. Shaw ever wanted to be was an elementary school teacher; she possessed a true, deep-hearted desire for all children to learn.

The word “dumb” was never used in the Shaw household, as she would quickly correct you. Mrs. Shaw firmly believed there is no such thing as “dumb”; no child is ever “un-teachable”; no child should be left behind.

Survivors include one sister, Etheleen Davis of College Park, Georgia; two sons, Dennis Shaw of Franklin and Tony (Kathy) Shaw of Aiken, South Carolina; one daughter, Olivia (Libby) Shaw Cummings of Franklin; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her dearly loved husband, Henry Lee Shaw; six sisters, Kathleen Morman, Wilameena (Willy) Stephens, Bernice Smith, Gladys Webb, Flora Eunice Morman, Frances Hendrix; two brothers, Stewart Eunice and Carlos Eunice; one son-in-law, Steve Cummings.
