Mrs. Doris Rogers

Doris-Rogers-1473255981Mrs. Doris Eris Jackson Rogers, age 83, of Harvell Drive (formerly Reavesville Road), Bowdon, Georgia died Wednesday, September 7, 2016 after a brief illness.

Mrs. Rogers was born on February 28, 1933 in Heard County to the late Roy Norman Jackson, Sr. and Annie Lou Eidson Jackson. She was a retired seamstress.

Mrs. Rogers was a member of Bowdon Baptist Church. She graduated from Centralhatchee High School in 1950 and worked as a homemaker as she raised her 6 children in the Ephesus Community.

On June 4, 1949, she married her high school sweetheart, George Franklin Rogers, Jr, a union that would span six decades. They settled in Bowdon in 1963.

Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Craig Rogers as well as a brother Wynton (Buck) Jackson and a sister, Helen Smith.

Mrs. Rogers is survived by her children and spouses, Ray (Suzanne) Rogers, Michael Rogers, Randy (Sabrina) Rogers, Debra (Garry) Gibbs, all of Bowdon and Carol (Lewis) Thomas of Carrollton and Steve (Angie) Rogers of Savannah; twin sister, Dara Yates of Rockmart, brother Roy Jackson of Villa Rica, sister-in-law, Christine Jackson of Roopville, & Opal Cannon of Leesburg, Georgia. Grandchildren, Julie (Bret) Hart, Shaun (Wendy) Rogers, Shelly (Jeff) Farmer, Shannon (Courtney) Bonner, Ashley (Scott) Widener, Stephanie (Brandon) Crews, Shellie (Jeremy)Morgan, Mike (Lillian) Rogers, Chris Rogers, Brian (Stacey) Rogers, Candace ( Steve ) Robbins, Kevin (Karly) Gibbs, Kayla (Kevin) Cheek, Paula (Scott) Walker, Marla (Charles) Turpin, Lance (Ally) Acree, Amanda (Matt) Morris, Alea (Chuck) Shadrix, Jonathan (Brandy) Cook, Harrison Rogers, and Maddie Rogers; 44 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and a wealth of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Rogers was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother to her large immediate family which consists of over 80 members. She enjoyed tending to her beautiful flowers, cooking for her family, antiquing, and spending time in her home in the North Georgia Mountains.

Her first love was sharing her love for Jesus Christ with all who crossed her path. Mrs. Rogers was loved by all who knew her and was everybody’s favorite! Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren always looked forward to her delicious homemade biscuits filled with plenty of hoop cheese & jelly!

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, September 10, 2016 at 2:00 p.m.at Bowdon Baptist Church with Rev. Justin Richards and Dr. Ron Huggins officiating.

Eulogies will be given by her children, grandchildren, and Opal Cannon. Music will be provided by the Bowdon Baptist Choir, Benny Boggus, and Lance Acree. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers and the Naomi Sunday School Class will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.

Interment will follow in the Ephesus Baptist Church cemetery with graveside services performed by Rev. Randall Eidson and Rev. A. J. Garcia.

Prior to the funeral service, Mrs. Rogers’ body will lie-in-state at the church from 1:00 p.m. until the funeral hour.

The family will receive friends at Rainwater Funeral Home in Bowdon on Friday, September 9, 2016 from 5:00 till 8:00 p.m.
