Mrs. Ethel Arrington

Mrs. Ethel Elizabeth Hicks Arrington, age 89 of Franklin, Georgia passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at The Hospice LaGrange in LaGrange, Georgia.

Funeral services for Mrs. Arrington were conducted on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. from the High Point Church of God in Franklin, Georgia with the Reverends Mark Tatum, Lynn Janney, and Garry Baugh officiating. The interment followed in the church cemetery.

Music was provided by Sheila Ogle, Velma Carter, and Ricky Gore. Those serving as pallbearers were Andy Betts, Phillip Spradlin, Gerrald Meacham, Tony Traylor, Dale Noles, and Jackie Arrington. Honorary pallbearer was Ray Traylor.

Mrs. Arrington was born in Heflin, Alabama, on January 12, 1924, the daughter of the late Robert and Donnie Hicks. She was a faithful member of the High Point Church of God where she was a member of the ladies ministry.

She was an accomplished seamstress and held positions with several of the area textile companies, her favorite being Baby Cloze Manufacturing Company in Franklin.

For many years she was the Jailer at the Heard County Jail. Her mothering ways and wonderful cooking inspired many young men to want to better themselves. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and aunt. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by one daughter Alma Jo Harper (Melvin) of LaGrange, GA.; one son, Mike Arrington (Robin) of Franklin, GA.; one favorite niece/companion/daughter, Barbara Traylor Spradlin of Franklin, GA.; grandchildren, Rhonda Harper Alford (Glenn) of Franklin, GA., Sharon Harper (Sawyer) of LaGrange, GA., J. Michael Arrington (Leah) of Roopville, GA., great-grandchildren, Zackery Sawyer (Mandy) of LaGrange, GA., Carver Arrington of Roopville, GA.; and great-great-grandchildren, Emilia Sawyer,  Jayden Balwin both of LaGrange, GA.; and a host of other family and friends who all lovingly referred to her as “Aunt Ethel.”

The Tom Stutts and Son Funeral Home of Franklin was in charge of arrangements.

    I am so glad we got to meet Miss Ethel. We are sorry for your loss and pray for God to heal the hurt of it but we are so happy for Miss Ethel; that she is really home now.
