Mrs. Grace Thompson Cadenhead


Grace Thompson Cadenhead, 96, died Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at Hospice LaGrange.

Mrs. Grace Thompson Cadenhead was born January 13, 1918 in Heard County, GA, the daughter of Heard and Katy Jackson Thompson.

Grace graduated from Heard County High School and attended West Georgia College.

She was a member of First Baptist Church on the Square, where she was the outreach leader for the Gleaners Sunday School class. She was active in church work, having also taught Sunday School class for 9 year olds for several years. She was a leader of a Girls In Action group and was also a Girl Scout Leader.

Grace was a member of the Pine Needle Garden Club and former member of the LaGrange Smocking Guild. She was a former member and past State President of the Alpha Sigma Chapter of the Beta Sigma Pi Sorority, and a former member and past State President of the Women’s Auxiliary of Georgia Postal Worker’s Foundation.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Wayne Cadenhead, sister, Mary Warren, and a brother, Pearce Thompson.

After retiring from a lengthy career with Sears, Roebuck, and Company, Grace was an active volunteer at Hospice LaGrange and CVAM.

For several years she read to students at Hollis Hand Elementary School and helped with the MOPS children’s program at First Baptist Church on the Square. She used her wonderful seamstress skills as a volunteer to make costumes for the LaGrange Ballet. Grace was a loving mother and family member.

Grace is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Cathy and Glenn Wiggins of LaGrange, GA and Sally and Norred Crews of Adairsville, GA; two granddaughters and their spouses, Leigh and Curt Thompson of Alamo, CA and Beth and Steven Hughes of Birmingham, AL; three great grandchildren, Carter Thompson and Griffen Thompson of Alamo, CA, and Taylor Hughes of Birmingham, AL; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, January 2, 2015 in the Ida Cason Callaway Chapel of First Baptist Church on the Square with Dr. Paul Baxter officiating. Burial will follow in Hillview East Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to West Georgia Hospice, 1510 Vernon Street, LaGrange, GA 30240, First Baptist Church on the Square, 100 Broad Street, LaGrange, GA 30240, or Florence Hand Home Trust, 1514 Vernon Road, LaGrange, GA 30240 in memory of Mrs. Grace T. Cadenhead.
