Mrs. Joan Hunter

Mrs. Joan Hunter, age 76 of Hogansville, Georgia passed away on December 18, 2014 at the Columbus Regional Medical Center in Columbus, Georgia.

Memorial services for Mrs. Hunter will be conducted on Friday, March 20, 2015, at 1:00 P.M. from the Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Forrest Park, Georgia with her son, Pastor Mike Stewart officiating. The interment will follow.

Mrs. Hunter was born in Montgomery, Alabama on September 24, 1938, the daughter of the late Valeria Mary Nitions Somerville and Homer Somerville. She was a retired teller for Wachovia Bank.

Mrs. Hunter was a faithful member of the Newnan Assembly of God. Her great devotion to all of God’s little creatures made her a big supporter of all of the area animal shelters and she herself took in any stray’s that she came in contact with.

Her big heart also led her to be a champion for sick children. The Saint Jude’s Children Hospital was especially dear to her heart.

Her family members were of course the greatest of all her loves. She adored preparing special meals for them and the family would tell you quickly that, “Mother’s turkey and dressing was the best in the world.”

The tremendous lessons learned at her knee were what made her children and grandchildren the fine adults they are today.

She is survived by one daughter, Lisa Ann Roussell (Mark) of Hogansville, GA.; two sons, Mike Stewart (Cindy) of Hiwassee, GA., and Wayne Hunter (Shane) of Carrollton, GA.; two sisters, Sandy McCoy (Frank) of Hampton, GA., and Debbie Newton of AL.; one brother, Danny Newton also of AL.; thirteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Other than her parents she was preceded in death by two beloved husbands, William Earl Stewart and Corbett Hunter, Jr.

Those who wish may write memorial tributes at

Stutts Funeral Home of Franklin, Georgia is in charge of arrangements.
