Mrs. Lee Davis

Mrs. Mattie Lee Smith Davis, age 84 of Americus, Georgia, formerly of Franklin, Georgia passed away Monday, July 8, 2013 at the Magnolia Manor Nursing Center in Americus after several years of declining health.

Funeral services for Mrs. Davis were conducted on Friday, July 12, 2013, 2:00 P.M. at the Prospect Church in Franklin, Georgia with the Reverend Brandon Brooks officiating. Loving remarks were made by two of Mrs. Davis granddaughters, Lorrie Ledger and Crystal Cheek. Music was provided by Leesa Stutts Cothran. Those serving as pallbearers were Brandon Davis, William Caride, Clint Ledger, Chad Mormon, Tom Davis, and Edgar Davis. The interment followed in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Davis was born on April 9, 1929, the daughter of the late Mattie Delaine Daniel Smith and Lee Allen Smith. Until her decline in health she was an active member of the Prospect Church. For many years she and her husband Freeman Davis were the owners of the Davis Steak and Pizza House in LaGrange, Georgia. “Mrs. Lee’s” quick wit and charming ways made her a favorite of the patrons. She was a very talented artist with both needle work and painting. Those who have been lucky enough to have one of her creations consider them great treasures. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She will be missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by one daughter, Gail Stickles (Glenn) of Columbus, GA., AL.; three sons, Don Davis (Sandra) of Americus, GA., Kirk Davis (Darlene) of Ashville, N.C.., and Patrick Davis (Maria) of Franklin, GA.; one sister, Shirley Eurick of Birmingham, AL.; eighteen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a number of great-great grandchildren.

Other than her parents she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Freeman Kirk Davis, Sr., five brothers, and four sisters.

The Tom Stutts and Son Funeral Home of Franklin, Georgia is in charge of arrangements.
