Simms ObitMrs. Myrle Katherine Jackson Sims, age 94, of Franklin (Centralhatchee) passed away Monday January 9, 2017 at Carrollton Manor Nursing Home.

Funeral services for Mrs. Sims will be conducted Wednesday January 11, 2017 at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Stutts Funeral Home with the Revs. Talmadge Chandler and Mark Williams officiating.

Interment will follow in Centralhatchee First Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will accept guests at Stutts Funeral Home Tuesday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 PM.

Mrs. Sims was born June 27, 1922 in Heard County to the late Samuel William Lee Jackson and Dera Pearl Shelnutt Jackson. She was a member of Centralhatchee First Baptist Church.

Early in her working life, she worked as a telephone operator in Atlanta and LaGrange. Later she worked as an inspector for Baby Cloze until the company closed. She went on to work for Fashion Star until her retirement. She loved to put her experience as a seamstress to use by sewing clothing for family and friends.

Never one to be idle, Mrs. Sims had a very active home life. She had a green thumb, and when she didn’t have fresh vegetables from the garden, she always had a pantry full of food she canned during the summer.

She loved to cook, and prepared many special dishes for her children’s school parties. Her favorite times were spent with her family around the table. Her fancy meals were always the highlight of family gatherings. For dessert, sometimes she would bake a delicious cake decorated for the occasion.

She also loved to fish, and times spent on the beach in Florida with her family were especially precious to her.

When she did have to time to rest, she liked to talk on the phone. She enjoyed fellowship with her friends and family, and was a precious mother, grandmother, and friend.

Survivors include two daughters, Jackie Neighbors of Franklin and June Echols (Jerry) of Franklin; five grandchildren, Lisa North (Alton) of Carrollton, Leslie Kersey of Franklin; David Neighbors (Tara) of Franklin; Janet Massey (Chris) of Franklin; and Laurie Shumake of Franklin; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a number of other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by by her loving husband, Jack Sims; a son-in-law, Glen Neighbors, and a brother, Milton Jackson.
