New Dismissal Time at HES in 2016

1490407-poster(Franklin) — Heard Elementary School students can expect some new schedule changes during the next calendar year according to Heard County School Superintendent Jerry Prince.

Parents of HES students received the news in a letter sent home last week, and the new changes in dismissal times will take effect on January 6, 2016.

School officials are implementing the changes to give elementary students more instruction time and less time on the school bus.

“We are constantly evaluating our instructional programs at each of our schools to provide the highest quality education possible for your children,” said Prince in the letter.

“Through this process we have determined that more instructional time is needed each day at Heard Elementary School in order to teach all the subjects to all students at the higher level of rigor demanded in today’s world.”

Currently, buses load at HES first in the afternoon, followed by Heard High School, and then Heard County Middle School.

Under the new schedule, students at HHS will be picked up first, followed by HCMS, and finally Heard Elementary. Prince feels that the elementary students spending less time on the bus will be a very positive improvement.

Start times at HHS and HCMS will remain unchanged.

Parents can expect to be alerted to the exact new schedule once final details are resolved. You can read the entire letter from Mr. Prince below.

An Open Letter to Parents of Heard Elementary School Students

Dear Parents or Guardians:

We are constantly evaluating our instructional programs at each of our schools to provide the highest quality education possible for your children. Through this process we have determined that more instructional time is needed each day at Heard Elementary School in order to teach all subjects to all students at the higher level of rigor demanded in today’s world.

We believe the best way to meet this need is to adjust the way the buses pick up students in the afternoon when school is dismissed. Currently buses load at Heard Elementary first, then Heard High and finally Heard Middle. If we change that so that the buses pick up at Heard High first, then Heard Middle and finally Heard Elementary this will give teachers at Heard Elementary the additional instructional time needed to teach your children well. In addition, Heard Elementary students will spend less time on a bus in the afternoon since they will be the last students to board a bus going home instead of the first, that’s a very positive thing.

So, beginning January 6, 2016 dismissal times for all students at Heard Elementary School will be changing. Students who are bus riders and students who are car riders will be dismissed a little later in the day. School start times in the mornings will not be changed, they will remain the same. School start and dismissal times at Heard High and Heard Middle will remain unchanged. We are currently working out the details and will send another letter home before Christmas break to give you the new dismissal times as well as a good estimate of when your students will get home if they ride a bus.

Thank you in advance for your support as we try to “Put Kids First” and do what’s right for the future of all our children. Please be patient as we work out the final details of this plan. If you have questions or concerns you may contact any of the names listed on this letterhead and we will be glad to speak with you.

Jerry Prince

Superintendent, Heard County School System

  1. I think you all just want more time to brain wash these kids. It is elementary school for crying out loud. And besides school doesn’t teach children the real things they need to know in life. Because no where in life , have i been asked on a job site about the civil war or to solve an algebraic equation.

  2. Clearly school didn’t help your grammar skills because your post is atrocious and contains an abundance of errors.

  3. Tanya Bradley says

I think they should leave the car riders the same time.the little one’s are on the bus to long.but the car riders go straight home so leave the car riders the same
