New Evidence Recovered in Quintuple Murder Investigation

(Lagrange, GA) — On February 18th investigators with the Troup County Sheriff’s Office were contacted by investigators with the Florence, Alabama Police Department in regards to recovering property that was possibly related to the quintuple murder investigation and suspect Thomas Lee.

Capt. Mike Caldwell along with another investigator traveled to Florence on Thursday and recovered the property.

The items recovered are significant evidence related to the case and indicates that Thomas Lee may have traveled through the Florence area prior to being apprehended in Tupelo, MS.

Due to the ongoing investigation the details of the evidence recovered are not be released at this time.

Sheriff James Woodruff appreciates the cooperation of Chief Ron Tyler and the officers and investigators of the Florence Police Department in identifying this evidence and for their help in this investigation and for the continuing work the investigative team is doing in the case.

Lee is accused of five killings believed to have taken place around January 28 inside a home on Woodstream Trail in Troup County.

The bodies weren’t discovered until January 31 after Troup County Sheriff’s deputies conducted a well-being check after one of the victims’ employers reported him missing.

Lee is charged with the deaths of William Burtron, 68, Shelia Burtron, 67, Bailey Burtron, 16, Iiaonna Green, 18, and his wife, Christie Lee, 39.
