(Franklin) — The Heard County Elementary School Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) held its first meeting of the 2014-15 school year on September 4, 2014 in the school’s gymnasium.

At the meeting, Principal Debbie Willard informed parents of upcoming events, the school fundraiser, and the need for new PTO officers.

The parents and faculty in attendance elected Julie Thomas as President, Tiffany Mixon as Vice-President, Nicole Rice as Secretary/Treasurer, and Leah Lawson as Activities Coordinator.

“Parental involvement is such an important component of any school’s success,” claimed Willard. “So I am thrilled that our school is fortunate enough to have energetic parents who are willing to sacrifice their time to become involved with their children’s’ education.”

After the business portion of the meeting was completed, a musical performance by Heard County Elementary School first graders began.

The first graders were led by the all five of the school’s first grade teachers: Michelle Alexander, Kelly Hadley, Daphne Holtzclaw, Laurie Shumake, and Lea Smith.

The students performed the Pledge of Allegiance, “America the Beautiful,” and “My Country Tis of Thee.”

Heard County Elementary School’s next PTO meeting will be held on October 2 at 6:30 pm in the school gymnasium. The fourth grade students will be performing at the meeting.
