(Franklin/Times-Journal) — One year ago in August the City of Franklin held a groundbreaking ceremony to make way for the new city hall building.

On Thursday August 4, 2016 that dream was made a reality as Franklin citizens attended open house with enthusiasm. The open house was held from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm with a tour of the facility. Light refreshments were served.

The city council signed the official contract for the construction on August 10, 2015 and approved a bid of $719,000.00 from Headley Construction out of Newnan.

Among those in attendance were Georgia House of Representative official Randy Nix, Georgia’s 28th District State Senator Matt Brass, Congressman Lynn Westmoreland’s Field Representative, James Ruvalcaba along with Heard County Commission Chairman Lee Boone, District 2 Commissioner Keri Denney, Heard County Chamber president Kathy Knowles, representatives from District Attorney Peter J. Skandalakis’ office, Centralhatchee’s city clerk Linda Rogers and many local citizens.

Mayor Joel Rogers stated last year, “That no general funds would be used for the project. The funds would come from a bond voted on June 18, 2006 along with some other money allocated in SPLOST IV to help finish it out.”

Mayor and city council met in their regular monthly meeting shortly after open house in the new city courtroom.
