Pinwheel Garden recognizes Child Abuse Prevention Month

Heard County Family and Children Services Staff and Board Members, Franklin Police Department and Board of Commissioners Chairman recognize Child Abuse Prevention Month by planting a “Pinwheel Garden” at Veteran’s Memorial Park on the square in Franklin earlier this month.

(Franklin, GA) — April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month! This year we celebrated the 36th Anniversary of our national awareness month as April was first designated as Child Abuse Prevention Month by President Ronald Reagan in 1983.

It’s the time of the year again we recommit to giving every child a chance to succeed and to ensuring that every child grows up in a safe, stable, and nurturing environment that is free from abuse and neglect.

Heard County Family and Children Services along with county leaders gathered at Veteran’s Memorial Park on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at 10:00 AM to recognize Child Abuse Prevention Month by planting a “Pinwheel Garden.”

Each was given a pinwheel to plant recognizing their commitment to protecting children and strengthening families.

Those in attendance were:

Heard County DFCS staff: Charlene Harrod, County Director, Danica Red, Lauren Marshall, Alyssa Bush, Simona Botezatu, Bo Hunt, Iris Harris, Lindsey Bray.

Heard County DFCS Board Members: Willie Bradfield, Debbie Rogers, Fred Harcrow

Board of Commissioners: Lee Boone, Commission Chairman

Franklin Police Department: Chief Kevin Hannah, Nikki Chapman, Jennifer Nelms, Jonathon Stewart

Pinwheels are visual reminders that we all play a role in ensuring happy and healthy childhoods for all children everywhere.

“We know that we can make a positive impact on the future by preventing child abuse and neglect,” said Charlene Harrod, Director at Heard DFCS.

“Our county staff is active every day in teaching parents, connecting them with assistance, and offering advice,” said Harrod. “Our job is a big one, but it would be impossibly huge without the backing of our community.”
